New Google core update coming in weeks

Google said the next Google core update may be released “in the coming weeks.” Google does not yet have a **** for when that core update will start to roll out because Google does not know until the core update is tested, evaluated and approved to be incorporated into Google Search – and that has not happened yet.

What Google said. Danny Sullivan, Google’s Search Liaison, posted on the Search Engine Roundtable, saying:

“We’d tell you when the next core update will be if we knew. But we don’t know exactly yet, that’s all. These aren’t scheduled to a particular day. The ranking team makes changes, tests those, evaluates those and eventually we get a launch ****. There have been many times I could have said “Core update next week!” because everything was on track for that to happen, but then there’s a need to do a bit more work or other things that might cause a pushback. I would expect we’ll see one in the coming weeks, because that fits in with our general cycle. But precisely when, that’s just not known yet.”

Previous core updates. The last core update we had was the largest core update, according to Google, and was named the March 2024 core update, which started on March 5, 2024 and completed 45 days later on April 19, 2024.

Here’s a timeline and our coverage of recent core updates:

Other updates. We did recently have a spam update, the June 2024 spam update that started on June 20, 2024 and took 7 days to finish rolling out, completing on June 27, 2024.

But since then, we had no additional confirmed updates. However, we had lots of unconfirmed updates.

Why we care. Many sites are hoping, and have been hoping, to see improvements with the last core update ever since the September 2023 helpful content update rolled out. Most, if not all, of those sites that were hit in September did not see recoveries. They were hoping to see recoveries with the March 2024 core upset, but did not.

So they are hopeful to see recoveries with the next upcoming core update. Will that happen is yet to be determined.
