A commonly asked question among all SEO conscious business owners is, “How can I make sure to beat my competitors if I don’t know who they are…?” And “How can I knock my biggest competitor down on his top three keywords if I don’t know which are the keywords we have in common?”
I’ve got the answer, and the answer is Rank Ranger’s Competitors Reports.
We have launched two new reports today that provide you with new and useful information about competitors – regardless of the competitors you track in your campaign – their top rated keywords and your current rank compared to theirs.
Top Organic Competitors Report
The Top Organic Competitors report helps you track organic search competitors, giving you valuable insights regarding who to beat to reach Google’s top 3, and which keywords to focus a little extra on.
The first thing you’ll come to see when entering the Organic Competitors report is a graph showing you your top competitors’ domains, and the number of overlapping (ranked in the top 20) keywords based on your campaign’s tracked keywords.
Also in the graph, you’ll see the total search volume and competitor’s visibility score for your tracked keywords.
Further down in the report you’ll find a customized table showing you the following parameters about your competitors, so that you easily can get an idea about your position compared to your competitors.
- Total (overlapping Top 20) Keywords
Number of Campaign Keywords for which the competitor ranked in the top 20 organic search engine results. - Competitor +
The number of tracked Keywords for which the competitor’s domain ranked higher than the Campaign Primary Domain in the Top 20 organic search engine results. - Competitor –
The number of tracked Keywords for which the competitor’s domain ranked lower than the Campaign Primary Domain in the Top 20 organic search engine results. - Delta
The number of rank positions that the Campaign Primary domain ranked higher (green) or lower (red) than the competitor domain. - Total Search Volume
The total amount of the broad number of Google global searches in a month for the specified, overlapping keywords. - Visibility Score
Visibility Score is a Rank Ranger metric that is based on the position of ranking keywords and average search volume.
Top Competitors Discovery Screen
The Discovery Screen icon launches a Organic Competitor Comparison screen that details the campaign keywords the competitor scored in the top 20 rankings along with monthly search volume and competitor rank vs. primary domain keyword rank.
In this Competitor Comparison example, we see that with 10 keywords ranking in the top 10 search engine results, Amazon.com is clearly the winner over BarnesAndNoble.com with respect to the campaign’s tracked keywords.
Top Paid Competitors Report
The second of our competitor tracking reports that we rolled out today is the perfect tool to track paid competitors: the Top Paid Competitors report.
Similar to the Top Organic Competitors report, it provides insight into your top competitors exposing which keywords they are focusing their advertising budget on.
By combining these two reports, as well as analyzing your AdWords Keywords it won’t take you long to figure out what you need to do to climb the Google ladder, and soon find your site among the big players at the top.
When first entering the Top Paid Competitors report, you’ll see a graph that might look familiar to you, but be aware, there’s a huge difference between this graph and the Top Organic Competitors – these are competitors who are paying for results.
Below the graph, the table displays competitor advertising statistics.
- Total (overlapping Top 20) Keywords
Number of Campaign Keywords for which the competitor ranked in the top paid (PPC) search engine results. - Total Search Volume
The total amount of the broad number of Google global searches in a month for the specified, overlapping keywords for the PPC campaigns. - Total Average CPC
The total average cost per click for all campaign keywords for which the competitor is running AdWord campaigns.
Paid Competitors Discovery Screen
After a quick overview you’ll see who seems to be your biggest competitor, but you might still be wondering which keywords are the ones stealing your traffic – so now its time to open up the Discovery screen to get the answer. The Discovery Screen icon launches a Paid Competitor Comparison screen that details the top ranking keyword, average cost per click, competitor ad position and the potential for click-thru based on keyword search volume.
Hover over a keyword and the actual AdWords ad displays, providing you with your competitor’s advertising copy in addition to the target landing page URL on their site.
One of many reasons why I really like these two new reports, and why I strongly suggest you sign up for a 30-day free trial (unless you’re already a Rank Ranger subscriber), is that you can see the benefits yourself in your campaigns… and what a life-changing moment it is when you all of a sudden can figure out:
- Which sites are competing for your traffic.
- How competitors are utilizing your keywords in their titles, descriptions and URLs.
- Who is investing advertising dollars to compete for your keywords and what wording boosts ads to the top search engine results positions.
To gain valuable insights into methods that can help you increase your traffic, beat your competitors, and maximize your own SEO, combine our Top Organic Competitors Report and Top Paid Competitors Report with the SERP Snapshot in our Rank Tracker Dashboard and the On-Page Keyword Optimization Tool and you’re already several steps closer to Google’s top rankings.
